The Brief

The project started with a group consensus that college campuses needed a more accessible and approachable way to sign up for mental health help. As a growing concern in today’s culture and mental health awareness my team and I wanted to create a simple, effective, and efficient addition to the UCI Now app that would allow students to sign up for or research telehealth without having to go in person to make an appointment. To further our research we took a survey of several college aged students to help with our development process.

Our Approach

Being that mental health is a variable and personalized experience, we went with a very empathetic user centric approach to our design, creating a persona that we felt encapsulated some of the major concerns and problems a college aged student may have when trying to find and book mental health help.

The Results

After redesigning and implementing the mental health option into the UCI app, we saw users found it much easier to locate the mental health services option. Prior to our design only 3 of 9 users could find the Student Health Services, which jumped to 9 of 9 after our design. All were also able to book an appointment and locate the newly implemented “Live Chat” feature as well.
